I have always been a great fan of Malorie Blackman’s writing – but this one I’m not so sure about! The first half was a little too romantically contrived for my liking, but once the ‘changes’ start to happen, then the story (and the writing) seemed to get a lot better (in my view anyway).
Jayna and Andrew are in love and about to head off on their first holiday together – neither sets of parents are impressed! Jayna’s Mum thinks she is too young to be away on holiday, alone with her boyfriend, for three weeks. Andrew’s parents just think she is not good enough (and she is ‘black’).
All goes to plan, until they break that simple rule – don’t take drinks from a stranger ….
