Speed of Light – Joy Cowley

ViewImageSet in a very familiar Wellington, Speed of Light seems initially to be about a fairly ‘normal’ dysfunctional family! A lawyer father who has over extended and gambled with clients money; a mother who goes through the mechanics of care and a teenage daughter out of control. Jeff, the youngest of the family, lives for Maths and the beauty and order that lies within it.

A typical Wellington storm blows in more than debris – in the form of an 86 year old woman who is a lot more than she appears. She seems to know everything about the family and provides Jeff with clues as to how to survive the whole mess of family life.

Well written ( it is Joy Cowley! ) and some surprising narrative twists .
