The house on Hummingbird Island – Sam Angus

This is a beautifully written book which will remind you of Pippi Long Stocking.

Ida Grace is twelve when she is sent away from the only home she knows in England to Hummingbird Island.  Her Governess accompanies her but does not last long in this new, so called wild environment and leaves her there in a large mansion with a house full some trusted long time loyal House Staff.

To make herself feel better she allows the animals she loves, Horses, monkeys, parrots etc to live in the house with her as her friends, while she learns to live and cope in this new environment.

The book follows her trials and successes as she reaches adulthood, but she must also face and unravel some dreadful truths about her family.

All in all a feel good book.
